This week Midwest Rodeos’ Performer of the week is Minnesota Cowboy J.D. Ingham. J.D. is a 27 year old bull rider, and bull fighter living in Dundas, MN that is turning 28 this week, so happy birthday to him from us at Midwest Rodeos.
J.D. has been in the MN Army National Guard since April 25, 2005, after enlisting 3 days after he turned 17. He deployed with the 34th Infantry Division in 2009 to Basra Iraq, and is currently a Sergeant in the Army, with the 34th Military Police Co. In Stillwater MN.
J.D. grew up in a rodeo family. His dad was a PRCA and IPRA bullfighter, and his uncle rode bulls in Oregon. As a kid he began to mutton bust, and he started riding bulls when he was 14, with the help of Nick Stolt, who later became a mentor and kind of a traveling partner for J.D. He rode in the MNHSRA, then after High school, rode in the MRA, where he currently rides. J.D. had his PRCA permit until deploying to Iraq. When he came home from Iraq in 2010, J.D got hooked up with the Circle C Rodeo Association in Alden Iowa, again with Nick Stolt. He then qualified for the Circle C finals in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
In 2013, J.D. was lucky enough to be drawn in to ride at the World’s Toughes Rodeo at the Xcel Center in St Paul. “It was an awesome experience!” J.D. explains, and he got drawn in again at the World’s Toughest Rodeo in 2016. He currently rides in the Rice Bull Riding Tour, the MRA, Midwest Bull Riders Association, and Triple B rodeos.
In 2007 he started fighting bulls at a practice pens, and fell in love with bull fighting too. A short time later he attended the Sankey Bullfighting school in Prairie Du Chein WI. He has fought Bulls for Dakota Rodeo co. And a couple Meech Practice nights, and is trying to get back into fighting more.
